I haven't lost all sense of grammatical fluency. I'm paying homage to the ancient mariners' maps that showed the edge of the sea and labelled it "Here there be dragons"...
No names yet...they've only been here since this morning. Linda sent a photo of them to me at work, and I only just met them in person. They're a shy trio, but that's understandable given the traumas of the day. In theory this is half the flock; the plan is to 'reclaim' three of our former flock, if the neighbors are still amenable (their house is for sale, so they're in favor of downsizing the critter population). And if they opt out of that, well, that's okay...we'll add more at some point.
But this trio is a pretty bunch, sharing soft whistles and murmurs....

White or brown eggs? Now the fun begins. Good luck on this flock!!! I think they're peepers...ooh keepers.
Brown eggs...these are Red Star sex link hens--winter hardy, prolific brown egg layers....
I guess living near the Catskills they'd almost have to be winter hardy. They're very nice looking. I always buy brown eggs, don't think I've ever had them fresh...
They are adorable. So exciting. Once you have your own fresh eggs you'll never go back!
We've been blessed to enjoy fresh, free range eggs for several years, first thanks to our neighbors' chickens, and then last Summer during our brief foray into chicken keeping. There's nothing like them; I actually can't eat scrambled or fried eggs from the supermarket anymore. I had decided I no longer liked eggs until we had them fresh, free range and local...
I grew up with hens, bantams and a rooster. There is something so satisfying awhen you hear the hens clucking, and collect those brown eggs. Those girls have a wonderful new home. Cheers from Jean
Welcome to your new home, chickies...I love chickens! I could not imagine life without them or their delicious eggs....LOL
Beautiful little trio Ashling... I am going to have to try this breed...
XO
I bet they are commenting on how nice their new digs are : )
Wow!! I don't get a chance to check your blog for a while and soooooo much has happened to catch up on!! I LOVE the coop. Did you keep the kitten? Your chickens are soooo cool - and so lucky to be moving into such nice new digs. I missed you at the last spinning class. I brought a BIG bag of yarns to show you and bored everyone else showing them off. I can't be at this week's class because we have a Farmer's Market to do from 10-1 on Sunday. How did the chicks handle the heat?
Three beautiful ladies to live in the beautiful new home! I love it!
